By now you must know that turmeric is a superfood with plenty of benefits. You can add it to your smoothie, salad or tea to help fight inflammation and to get a good source of fiber, vitamins and magnesium. But did you know turmeric can also improve your skin?
Studies have shown that curcumin, a chemical compound found in turmeric, can decrease UV damage (it's a natural antioxidant) and clear up acne (it's also antibacterial) when applied to skin. While you can probably make some homemade remedies, beauty brands have made it easy for you to buy your favorite turmeric-infused products at your local beauty store. Brightening & Exfoliating Masks For under $50, you can find 2-in-1 turmeric brightening and exfoliating masks, which contain exfoliating alpha hydroxy acids to address hyperpigmentation, dullness, and uneven texture. Pore Toner Some toners feature soothing turmeric, alongside a slew of other nourishing ingredients like aloe to balance skin while seriously turning up the glow factor in your complexion. Spot Treatments Ever have a zit? Then you must know something about benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid - two of the most effective acne-fighting ingredients out there, but they can easily cause dryness and irritation if used too aggressively. Brighten discoloration and target blemishes the gentle way with a turmeric spot treatment. Cleanser Get yourself a facial cleanser with turmeric extract. It’ll leave your skin clean and refreshed without drying it out. If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below. Here are five simple steps to help your makeup last through the day.
Prep your skin It’s best to start by cleansing and exfoliating skin, which can help you control any excess sebum. Even the oiliest of skin needs hydration. A gel-based lotion or moisturiser will hydrate the skin without leaving it slick or greasy. Use a mattifying primer A mattifying primer will help conceal shine, grease, and excess buildup before your makeup application. As you shop, you'll also want to look for oil-fighting ingredients like charcoal and clay. Choose the best foundation Pick between a powder and a mattifying liquid foundation. You can go as light as a tinted moisturizer that won’t slip off and leave streaks on your face. Go oil free Since normal skin naturally produces more than enough oil, invest in makeup products (especially foundation and blush) that are oil-free and noncomedogenic, which means they don't clog your pores. Ask your dermatologist if cleaners and toners infused with glycolic acids, which cut down on excess oil, are right for you. Look for “long wear” Water and oil can do the same things to makeup: make it smear, smudge, or slip. That's a reason to stick to eye products that are waterproof, water-resistant, or long-wear. One of the best, long-wear combos is water-resistant eyeliner and cream eye shadow over an eye primer. If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below. And that’s why we love subtle face-framing hairstyles that are based on your face shape or hair color.
Highlights Face-framing highlights are a coloring technique that cleverly brings out your most attractive features. Explain to your hairstylist that you are looking for strategically placed waves and carefully selected coloring clues that will offer hints as to where the eye should be drawn. Usually the color is placed where the sun would naturally highlight your hair. Oval shape There’s no shortage of options when it comes to layered haircuts that will suit your face shape. Since your symmetrical shape gives you a bit of leeway, consider emphasizing its symmetry with some face-framing bangs—curtain bangs, to be exact. Lob with Face-Framing Layers A traditional lob can sometimes look heavy at the front, especially if you have thick hair. Framing chin-length layers around your face will soften this hairstyle and accentuate your features. Bangs Shorter face-framing layers like curtain bangs are a perfect choice to hide a bigger forehead and bring attention to your cheekbones. Blow dry your fringe upwards and downwards with a medium-size round brush to achieve a chic look. Long layers While layers are one of the best ways to elevate your long hairstyle, we like the idea of facial framing. Some layering around your face will emphasize your features and jazz up the style. Part your hair in the middle or wear it swept to one side to create different looks. Before you spend all your money at an expensive department store or beauty counter, we recommend browsing through your kitchen cabinets for the best moisturizing ingredients.
Honey Honey is not only deeply moisturizing but also has antibacterial properties, and it helps clean out your pores. Raw honey and manuka honey are also known to prevent acne breakouts, especially during winters. It clarifies skin by opening up and unclogging pores. It’s also a great moisturizer that soothes irritation and blemishes, and it leaves a lovely afterglow. Try a moisturizing honey mask at home. Turmeric Turmeric is a spice with anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties - all to say it’s perfect for keeping your skin hydrated too. Raw turmeric is especially beneficial for the skin and can be directly applied after turning into a paste. If you only have powdered or dry turmeric at home, mix it with milk before applying onto the skin. Coconut oil Coconut oil is one of our favorite ingredients because you can do so much with it - especially in the winter! Use it as a makeup remover, exfoliant, cuticle cream and even a shaving cream! It will prevent razor burns and dryness on your legs after shaving, just by applying a thin layer. The result will leave your legs feeling super soft, smooth, and moisturized. For those particular harsh winter days, sleep with a DIY face mask made from coconut oil to restore hydration. Sugar You can create your own sugar body scrub to exfoliate your skin this winter. Or, you can get one at GlaminatorBeautyBar.com. Our Sugar Scrub formula harnesses the powers of raw cane sugar, emu oil, & coconut oil to gently exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin. A lightweight and whipped scrub penetrates deeply to leave your skin smooth, hydrated and clean. A subtle hint of therapeutic lavender essential oil will seduce your senses. At Gaminator Beauty Bar, we are always on the look out for great skincare advice so here are some tips on how to treat dull looking skin and fight acne (yes- some of us are still dealing with this).
Blue Light Therapy You may wear blue light blocking glasses when staring at the computer, but did you know that blue light can also help fight off acne? Blue light therapy can help prevent breakouts, clear up blemishes, fight acne-causing bacteria, and even treat sun damage. But keep in mind that light therapy doesn’t work for everyone, and it could take several sessions to find out if your acne is sensitive to blue light. If it is, you might still need to use other acne treatments like prescription creams. But for others, the treatment can light the way to clearer skin. You can find various LED masks or devices to use at home at your local beauty department or drugstore. Brightening Cream By now you should have already put your light-weight moisturizer away (or in the garbage) and switched to a brightening and hydrating rich cream. To help you achieve an even and healthy-looking complexion all year round, brightening creams can deeply hydrate and transform dull skin, correcting dark spots and hyper-pigmentation, to leave it with a radiant, even-toned and youthful appearance. Probiotic Skin Lotion https://www.allure.com/gallery/probiotics-skin-care-products You might already be taking a daily probiotic to support your overall immune system and gut health. But now you can also apply it directly to your skin as part of your beauty routine with probiotic skin-care formulas. Everything from gel moisturizers, serums, bar soaps, body lotions, face masks and more. If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below. And while you deserve to wear whatever color lipstick you want anytime of the year, there’s no denying that fall has some of the best makeup and beauty trends of the year. So let’s talk about some of our faves.
Oxblood Go straight for a moody oxblood that will certainly wow. This is a high-pigment color so we recommend keeping the rest of your makeup minimal. Classic Red Spice things up in red shade. Go for a shimmery shade with a water-resistant formula for a daring and lasting look. Glittery Finish Glitter is in. Add a neutral pop to your look with a shimmery shade that instantly illuminates. Orange Hue And it’s not just because Halloween is approaching. Get yourself a nourishing lip stain to keep your lips hydrated while pumpkin picking or wine tasting with your girlfriends. Berry & Matte Avoid smudged lips with a long-lasting matte formula - especially when wearing dark berries, reds, and dark brown. Sheer Black Cherry A sheer formula can still make a statement. With the shine of a gorgeous gloss and the hydration of a balm, a vitamin-rich lippy leaves lips extra lush. Matte Liquid Textures Not sure how deep you want your pigmented shade to be? Opt for a buildable, waterproof lipstick to allow you to go as light or as deep as you want. If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below. The natural ingredient is an antioxidant with the ability to brighten skin, neutralise free radicals and fade pigmentation. So it’s no surprise beauty scientists thought it could benefit us by incorporating vitamin C serums, creams or targeted treatments into our daily routines.
Who should try vitamin C? Almost anyone can use vitamin C as skincare. However, those with sensitive skin and fragile skin barriers should be careful because of skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, rosacea and dry skin, as these can be potentially problematic. If you’re unsure, we recommend you try a patch test first. Most topical treatments can be very acidic and cause flare-ups of acne and eczema. Choosing the right product Vitamin C isn’t the easiest ingredient for the skin to absorb. It’s water-soluble and therefore repelled by our waterproof skin barrier. When shopping for a vitamin c product you’ll see that many brands have found ways to side-step the vitamin’s stability and absorption issues using innovative formulations and advanced packaging. That’s why sometimes you’ll see a vitamin c moisturizer range between $65 - $166. Our conditioning body wash contains a mix of essential oils and vitamins - including vitamin C - and for only $22. Look for products in airtight, opaque packaging and containing ascorbic acid (often referred to as L-ascorbic acid), which is the term for the chemically active form of vitamin C. But hear us out - facial oils have tons of benefits. When integrated correctly.
Facial oils are tailored to work with your natural skin oils. Our skin naturally produces oils and lipids, which help prevent water loss and keeps our skin hydrated. The right face oil can help keep your skin balanced and add an extra level of protection and keep you acne free. Yes, you read that right. Keep your skin balanced and acne free It seems counterintuitive to put oil on your face when most of us don’t want to look oily – especially if we already happen to have oily, acne-prone, or combination skin. However, facial oils can actually help to balance excess sebum in oily skin types and can be gentle on sensitive skin. Reduce wrinkles Facial oils can help reduce your wrinkles because they contain essential ingredients like antioxidants and pass through the skin quickly, preventing water loss while keeping skin plump. Antioxidants also boost collagen production and strengthen skin elasticity – another anti-aging perk! Get a natural-looking glow Your skin may also look dull if your body is dehydrated during the fall and winter months, or if you haven’t had enough sleep. No matter the cause of dull skin, facial oil can help restore moisture and encourage glowing skin. Remove makeup and dirt better than with a cleanser or facial wipe Instead of using a facial cleanser to remove your makeup, first try applying a gentle facial oil with a cotton ball or your hands across your face. Then, with a clean, warm washcloth gently wipe the oil and makeup off your face. Finish by washing your face with your cleanser and pat dry. You can then apply a natural oil on your skin before bed to allow ample time for your skin to soak them up overnight - leading to reduced lines and wrinkles, increased firmness and elasticity, and brighter and even-tone skin. We can all learn a few things on TikTok, including some new hair and makeup tips. Who knew?! We compiled a list of some tutorials worth trying.
10-second contour According to the video, all you need is a stick bronzer and your foundation. You simply contour over the lips, under the cheekbones and chin, and on the forehead. Then you add your foundation on the rest of the face and blend in. See for yourself on TikTok here. DIY BB Cream Creators are mixing creams they already own to create a custom shade of BB cream (beauty balm) which is meant to be a lightweight base. For this DIY to work, you have to make sure your foundation and primer have the same base ingredients otherwise the product will roll right off your face. Easy high ponytail for long hair If you’re looking for a voluminous and easy hairstyle, this is for you. It’s done by twisting the hair tie around the bottom part of the ponytail twice. First you make a regular high ponytail, but on the last twist, grab half of your hair and pull it through. Then tie it in the back and front. If these TikTok beauty tutorials won’t cut it, remember that we offer full hair and makeup services in our Glaminator Beauty Bar. While we all have different issues (adult acne, dry skin, rosacea, etc.) there are a few tips most of us can follow for a healthy daily skincare regimen. Hint: It all starts and ends with cleansing.
Daily cleansing Cleanse your face twice a day— gently. Cleansing when you wake up and before you go to bed helps remove oil and dirt that can irritate your skin. Choose a mild, soap-free cleanser to avoid irritation. Be sure to pat dry with a clean cotton towel. Moisturizing and sun protection Moisturizing is key for healthy skin. The best time to moisturize is after a shower and you have pat dried your skin. Consider using a moisturizer with built-in sun protection/SPF 30 or higher year round. And now that we’re officially approaching fall, it’s time to say goodbye to the lightweight, oil-free moisturizer and switch to a heavier cream. Staying away from irritants If you have sensitive skin or suffer from rosacea, avoid anything that contains alcohol, camphor, fragrance, glycolic acid, lactic acid, menthol, sodium laurel sulfate and urea. Consider finding products or makeup that doesn’t irritate your skin. You might need to make an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss your specific needs.
