What to do after eyebrow waxing?

12/30/2019

Sure, there is tweezing and threading, but waxing is one of the most common – and effective brow grooming methods. Why do people prefer it? Because waxing is effective, cost-efficient, and accurate. The shape you get with eyebrow waxing is flawless and all tiny hairs are removed perfectly in one go with either hard body waxes or soft waxes, it's up to your wax Glaminator!

If you are new to eyebrow waxing or you're about to have your eyebrow waxing appointment, this is perfect for you! We'll walk you through the important things to do – and not do – after eyebrow waxing.

What to Expect During the Eyebrow Wax Appointment: Basic Eyebrow Waxing

Any waxing implies a bit of skin irritation. There will be a bit of pain or discomfort when the hair is getting ripped and also a bit of redness after the waxing. Apart from that, the whole eyebrow shaping and waxing service should last no more than 20 minutes. It is easy and it goes smoothly with a properly trained professional. Just make sure the esthetician or Glaminator uses all the tools, no double-dipping, and pre-wax, and post-wax products.

Just in case you're new to eyebrow waxing, here's the basic process:
  1. Cleaning: your esthetician will use an antiseptic pre-depilatory lotion to remove any makeup, dirt, and oil from the brow area.
  2. Shaping: this is a crucial step where your brow artist will do the correct brow measurements to perfect your shape or completely re-shape your brow according to your facial features.
  3. Waxing: this is where the hair actually gets removed. The best technique is applying wax at the bottom and on top of the brow in the direction of hair growth in two sections (first the body and then the tail for the brow) and then removing it in the opposite direction. The space between the brows also gets cleaned with the wax, and excess wax bits are touched up with the wax strip. Many estheticians are now using hard body waxes for eyebrow waxing since they are comfortable to use and help achieve a very accurate shape. Once the waxing is done, the brow area gets cleaned once more with a post-depilatory lotion.
  4. Perfecting: if any stray hairs haven't been removed with the wax, some have broken, or are way out of the wax application area, they will be tweezed out. Another important step in perfecting the brow is trimming the hairs which are too long. For this, the esthetician will brush the brow in the angle of hair growth and trim any length that goes out of the shape.
  5. Brow Tinting (optional): some wax beauty bars offer this option. Tinting is done with pigments that have short to medium duration, from a week to a month approximately. A soft tint gives the brow more definition and fills in any bald spot.

Now that you know what the process will be about, you should also know that your brow waxing is one of the quickest and least complicated ways to groom your brows.

What to Do (And What Not to Do) After Eyebrow Waxing
Eyebrow waxing aftercare is the best way to ensure that your appointment will be worth it. The flawless brows you just got shaped will look good for longer, and your skin will be healthy in the process. Remember that we're dealing with the delicate skin on your face, and any type of waxing brings a bit of skin trauma. Here's the basic eyebrow waxing aftercare.

General Recommendations
  • Do not touch your brow area constantly - You could bring bacteria to the area, clogging the pores and increasing the risk of breakouts or infection. Just leave it alone to heal.
  • Do not tweeze in between appointments! This is one of the worst things you can do. Instead of keeping the shape clean, you might completely ruin it, losing the growth you had worked so hard to achieve and making your brow artist's job more difficult.
  • If you chose to get your brows tinted and they look too dark, don't panic. The intensity of the tint will fade quicker than you think.
  • If you notice unusual reactions like lingering irritation/redness, itching, swelling or burning, call your esthetician. They will probably recommend remedies according to the characteristics of your symptoms.
  • To refresh and soothe the area at home, you could benefit from an aloe vera gel. Apply it whenever your skin feels a bit sensitive for instant relief.

Skincare and Eyebrow Waxing
  • We know you probably keep a skincare routine, and those usually include exfoliation, but you cannot exfoliate for at least three days before or after the appointment. Much less if you use products for acne control (they may contain salicylic acid or other ingredients with extra exfoliating power). Warning: if you are on acne medication, you shouldn't even be thinking of waxing at all. You'd have to stop Accutane at least one year prior to any waxing procedure and most other acne medications at least three months prior. Ignoring this might result in disaster: skin may lift, graze, tear, and bruise more easily, leading to injury and possibly scarring.
  • Anti-aging creams (retinoids) don't mix with waxing, either because they have a chemical exfoliating action. Stop products with retinoids at least one week prior to and following the procedure.
  • Try not to use facial cleansers on the brow area for at least 24 hours after the procedure, unless they are specifically formulated for sensitive skin and it's very necessary. Mind you, no matter how mild they are, they might discolor eyebrow tinting way faster.

Makeup and Eyebrow Waxing
  • If possible, avoid makeup on the brow area for around 24 hours after waxing. No gels, pencils or shadow on the brow.
  • The skin on top of the brow and below it also needs to be clear of makeup, so apply no foundation or other skin makeup on the waxed area. This is to anticipate any overreaction you might experience.

Sun Exposure and Eyebrow Waxing
  • Do not expose to sunlight before and especially not after the appointment. This can result in sunburn and eventual hyperpigmentation of the area.
  • Avoid tanning beds, saunas, and even spray tans. Tanning beds and saunas raise your skin's temperature and make it sensitive, as well as open more your pores. Give your skin at least 48 hours to rest.
  • Stay clear of the beach or pool as chlorinated or saltwater can irritate the sensitive skin on the brow area after waxing.
  • If you thought self-tanners are a good idea just because you 'll avoid sun exposure, think again. Avoid this type of product around three days after your waxing – and before, as well. Once the three-day period expires, you can use a self-tanner, but if you got your brows tinted, protect the brow area and the hairline to avoid discoloration.

Hopefully, this has helped you get a better idea of how to take care of your eyebrows through waxing. We bet you'll have fierce-looking brows for longer and keep your skin super healthy all the while. Apart from giving you excellent advice, your Glaminator will also give you quality care with professional advice on our clean beauty skincare line.

What does a lash lift do?
In recent times people are turning to longer-lasting treatments like extensions and lash lifts. Eyelash Extensions can make lashes appear fuller without the need for mascara, and they can come in a range of materials, but lash lifts are essentially a perm for your natural lashes. The treatment typically lasts six to eight weeks with proper care.

A professionally applied lash lift is designed to enhance your natural lashes at a minimal level. It will not be able to create texture, add color, contour and shape or add dimension to your eyes the way lash extensions would. The main purpose is to curl your natural lashes and you must have at least a 4 millimeter lash to be an optimal candidate for the service. A lash lift is
a great alternative for those who are unable to obtain extensions due to eye sensitivities or simply not having time to maintain. That's right! Leave the eyelash curler stored away.

What to expect at a lash lift treatment
A lash lift can transform your lashes within 45 minutes to an hour. In order to give lashes a curled effect, the technician or Glaminator works from the lash base to the tip to see its full length. Depending on the desired curl, the technician uses a selection of different types of rods: The larger the rod, the softer the curl.

What about lash tints?
Lash lifts are sometimes mistaken for lash tints, but they actually do two totally separate things. Think of lash tinting as a semi-permanent dye service for your lashes. Tinting won’t add curl, length or volume to your lashes, but it will darken and intensify their color with permanent, cream-based dyes (and in some cases, a semi-permanent vegetable-based dye).
Lash tints and lash lifts are separate services, but it is highly suggested by beauty experts to get them done at the same time.

"I always recommend doing a lash tint and a lash lift at the same time if your lashes would benefit from it." Carol Pires, Owner of Glaminator Beauty Bar. It will lift and darken your natural lashes and create a balanced, effortless look," Carol advised. To learn more or schedule your next appointment visit www.GlaminatorBeautyBar.com

4 Ways Waxing Benefits Your Skin

Hey Beauties,

The majority of you know the overall goal of any beauty regiment is to help feel and portray a youthful and radiant appearance, which can be accomplished through proper care of your skin. One of the most important parts of your beauty routine to consider is the removal of excess, unwanted hair, which can help contribute to the softer, cleaner look we most desire–especially on your face. Hair removal if not done well can be uncomfortable and difficult which is what drives you to find the best and the newest ways to achieve the results you want. Waxing, as a form of hair removal is often considered one of the best methods to remove excess, unwanted hair. Not only does it achieve the results you desire, it also comes with a few extra benefits for your skin. And here they are...

SKIN BENEFITS OF FULL BODY WAXINGFull body waxing is a way to remove hair temporarily, though the results are much longer lasting than the results of shaving and other temporary hair removal techniques. It should be be done in a professional spa or salon but can also be performed at home. The wax is applied to the skin before being removed by paper, cloth strips, or by removing the wax itself, at which point it removes the unwanted hair. Many beauties agree that it is far preferable to have body waxing performed in a professional spa or salon as it is often a more comfortable experience, faster, and produces longer lasting results.

Compared to other temporary hair removal techniques, waxing is cheaper and easier. The following are a few unexpected ways that waxing benefits your skin:
  1. No skin irritation or allergies. Unlike hair removal creams and shaving gels, quality wax that is normally used for body waxing procedures does not contain extra ingredients that can cause skin irritation or allergies. Properly performed by a trained and experienced professional, the waxing process can result in no or very little and fleeting redness.
  2. Improves skin texture. In addition to removing excess, unwanted hair, waxing also removes the top layer of dry, dead skin cells. The result is skin that is far more smooth and even, something that cannot be achieved through hair removal creams or shaving. Some waxes even contain aloe or butter in order to moisturize the skin and further improve its tone and texture.
  3. No cuts! It can be frustrating to try and improve your skin’s appearance through a method that results in things that adversely affect its appearance, such as cuts or bruises. Even when these things are temporary, they can be annoying to have to deal with. Waxing doesn't produce cuts as shaving sometimes does.
  4. Stubble-free is the way to be. Unlike shaving, which simply cuts hair off at the point where it emerges from the skin, waxing removes all hair completely by the root. Shaving can result in skin that feels rough and stubbly, whereas waxing can result in skin that feels ultra soft.

But wait! There's more - waxing can also cause hair to regrow at a much slower rate, which is not true of other hair removal procedures. The length of time it takes for hair to regrow after waxing can vary, but with repeated waxing, over time it is usually anywhere between four to six weeks, sometimes even longer, before hair begins to grow back. When hair does finally grow back, it is soft and fine, unlike the rough, stubbly hair regrowth that occurs after shaving.
