Before you go and pluck out those hard earned eyelash extensions please do yourself a favor and review these professional tips and tricks to avoid some serious damage to your natural eyelashes. Eyelash Extensions are wonderful to fellow lash lovers until it sadly comes to their removal.
Truth is after the first three to four weeks eyelash extensions can go through a strange transition period when most of your lash extensions have already fallen off and been replaced by your natural, shorter lashes but there are still a few long, misplaced stragglers hanging on. It's at this time that you'd usually: 1. get infills to make them fluffy and fresh again or 2. have them professionally removed And while we highly recommend not removing them yourself for fear of damaging your natural lashes, if you're going to do it despite our advice, or while in quarantine, we thought we might as well provide you with the safest option possible. Here's what you'll need:
Step-by-step for removing eyelash extensions at home: Step Number 1: Remember how your Lash Glaminator told you not to use oil-based products near your eyes? This is because it breaks down the adhesive. To start your removal process, soak a cotton pad in your oil-based eye makeup remover and gently press onto each (closed) eye for a good 30 seconds, focusing the pressure near the lash line. You will want to saturate the area as much as possible, without causing irritation. Step Number 2: Next, apply more oil. Dip a cotton bud into your choice of coconut or olive oil, and then apply it to the lash line rubbing gently back and forth. Keep the focus on where the glue sits on your eye. At this moment, you may have one or two false lashes that come away with the cotton bud. Step Number 3: Soak a cotton pad in the same oil from step two, and press it against your lash line with your eye closed. Then, very gently, rub the cotton pad back and forth continuously. Step Number 4: Every now and then, remove the cotton pad and you should see some of your lash extensions have come off. Depending on how strong your lash extension glue is, you may have to repeat step three multiple times on each eye to get every last lash. Patience is key here. Step Number 5: Once all the lashes are removed, soak a cotton pad in micellar water and run it over each eye to remove all the oil. Step Number 6: Finish with a soothing eye cream or serum to calm the skin after so much rubbing. Step Number 7: Apply an eyelash serum to help rejuvenate your lashes after the trauma and frtiction of removing your lash extensions. We’re all guilty of misbehaving sometimes, and that’s perfectly fine. Some rules really are absolutely meant to be broken, and being a little mischievous certainly does make life more interesting. But, when it comes to your skin, developing poor habits on a consistent basis can leave you looking older than you are. A lot older and fast. So, if you’re currently committing any of these skin crimes it’s probably a good idea to stop, ASAP.
#1 You’re using certain products at the wrong time We’ll give anyone props who are adding amazing aging ingredients to their skin care regimen, but, the times that you apply these ingredients does matter. Antioxidants like vitamin A, D, E, C, K and F should be used in the morning in order to fight nasty UV rays and free radical damage during the day, while collagen-boosting ingredients (like oleic, stearic, palmitic, and linolenic acids) aid in the skin’s natural collagen production and should be used at night while your skin is in repair mode. #2 You’re pretending your skin hasn’t changed over the years As we age, our skin gets thinner, drier, and sometimes more sensitive. This means using the same skin care products you used in your early teens and 20s just won’t cut it in your 30s, 40s, 50s and well beyond. You have to figure out what your skin issues are whether it be wrinkles, pigmentation or redness and adjust your products accordingly. Look for clean products that are great for dry skin & pre / post sun-care. #3 You treat your adult acne like teenage pimples When you’re know it all teenager, your blemishes are caused by puberty and excessive oil production. As an adult, the triggers are usually caused from stress and hormonal changes. Before you try to strip your skin of all its oil in an attempt to clear your pimples like you probably did in your teenage years, try using a cleanser that contains salicylic acid to help unblock pores and rid your skin of congestion. Without the ability to come into the Glaminator Beauty Bar, you may feel like your eyebrows, skin, and hair have never felt so unloved!
Fortunately, there are ways you can care for your skin and pamper yourself while you’re stuck out home. Check out our top tips to take care of your skin during the quarantine. Wash, Tone and Moisturize your Face With nothing but time on your hands right now, it’s crucial that you take care of your skin. Using clean beauty products, you should cleanse your skin both morning and night. Even if you aren’t wearing makeup during quarantine, removing the dirt and debris that accumulates throughout the day is important. Use a pH-balanced cleanser for the best results. Toning your skin helps calm it down and get it ready to accept moisturizer, the next most important step in caring for your skin. Using a clean toner helps balance your skin, giving it an even tone, which you’ll appreciate once you are out and about again! Moisturizing helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Did you know that dry skin breaks out even more than moisturized skin? Your skin traps the debris and dirt that flies through the air, which then creates the perfect basis for acne. Don’t forget sunscreen! Yes, even when you’re staying inside, if you have windows, you get sun exposure. Use a light SPF moisturizer every morning to protect your delicate skin. Take Care of your Body The skin over your entire body needs some TLC during this time too, especially your hands. How many times a day do you wash your hands or use hand sanitizer? While it’s important to stay free from germs, of course, your skin needs some refreshing from the dryness. Using a high-quality lotion or cream, like our Hydrating Butter, you can replenish your skin. This natural butter with clean beauty ingredients helps hydrate your gentle skin with shea butter, and essential oils that help calm and soothe the skin, especially after feeling dry from excessive cleansing. Another way to pamper your skin is with Glaminator’s Sugar Scrub. This gentle blend of raw sugar, emu and coconut oil helps remove the dead skin and hydrate your skin for a smooth, clean appearance. Laced with quality lavender essential oil, the sugar scrub will help calm your skin and your mind, making you feel pampered. Pamper Yourself Now is the best time to pamper yourself as much as possible. Take care of your skin by cleansing and hydrating it. Give yourself the gift of pampering while you can’t come in for an appointment. Caring for your skin now will help it stay strong and beautiful for the day you can come back in for your skin and hair treatments. Until the day we can see you again, we encourage you to take care of yourself during quarantine. Know that we're still here for you and can’t wait to see you again! Your Everyday makeup should define your bone structure, hide any blemishes, and highlight those beautiful eyes without making you look overdone. So here is a short process broken down into three steps to give you a natural, polished appearance.
Step 1 of 3: Prepping Your Face Wash your face before applying makeup in the morning, wash your face so you'll be able to start with a fresh canvas. Use a cleanser or simply splash lukewarm water on your face a few times to wash away any debris on your skin then pat it dry gently with a soft towel. Consider exfoliating. It's not necessary to exfoliate every day, but doing so every few days is essential to keeping your skin looking fresh. Putting makeup on over dry, flaky skin defeats the purpose! Exfoliate your skin using either a small facial brush, an exfoliating scrub, or another exfoliating tool designed for use on the face. Focus on areas that tend to get dry and flaky. Apply a moisturizer. The last step before applying makeup is putting on some moisturizing lotion. This will help your makeup go on more easily and create a better final look. Choose a good face moisturizer that works with your skin type. Massage it gently all over your face. Don't forget your eyelids, lips, and nose. Step 2 of 3: Applying Foundation and Powder Apply a foundation that matches the tone of your skin. Choose a foundation that works with your skin type and matches your coloring. Liquid foundation is a fine choice for many types of skin. You can also use tinted moisturizer or BB cream. If your skin is on the oily side, you might want to consider a compact or powder foundation.
Apply a concealer that matches your skin tone or if you have dark under-eye circles, go one shade lighter. Apply a light amount of concealer using either a concealer brush or your finger by dabbing it under your eyes and gently blending it in. This will make your eyes look bright instead of sleepy. Apply a powder that matches your skin tone. Use a powder brush to apply the powder to your face in a circular motion. This will give your face a natural-looking finish and help set your foundation so that it stays in place all day. Apply a pink-toned blush that brings out the best in your facial coloring. Swirl a blush brush in the container, smile, and apply it to the apples of your cheeks in a circular motion. Step 3 of 3: Applying Eye Makeup and Lip Color Apply a neutral shadow pallet for a simple, everyday look. neutral tones are all good choices, depending on your eye color. Avoid bright colors, "smokey eye" pallets, and other bold jewel tones, as they'll look out of place during the day. Here's how to apply eyeshadow to make it look natural and pretty:

But there's one step we all tend to forget after washing our hands or applying hand sanitizer – that critical layer of hand cream. Ironically, by over-washing our skin, we can develop dry cracks in the skin, giving bacteria an entry point into our bodies. Here are some best practices on how to treat signs of over-washing like pain, redness, flaking and itching. Why is hand-washing so harsh on our skin? The outermost layer of our skin is composed of oils and wax and it acts as both a shield from the outside and a guard that maintains natural moisture in the skin. This natural barrier is broken down by the suds created by soap while washing hands, which doesn't discriminate between unwanted oil, germs, debris and natural oils in the skin. Not applying a quality hand cream can lead to dryness, redness, itching, flaking, discomfort and in severe cases, cracks in the skin. Those with pre-existing dermatologic conditions like eczema can experience worsening symptoms. How to wash your hands to avoid skin dryness Apply enough mild, fragrance-free soap to remove dirt, but avoid using so much that it creates a thick lather which tends to wash away healthy natural oils. Wash with warm, not hot water, for at least 20 seconds, patting your hands dry with a towel. Once your hands are dry, apply a moisturizer immediately. Keep small travel sizes of Glaminator Beauty Bod Butter in your car, purse, gym bag, and at your work desk to make sure it is within reach. Are there any ingredients to avoid when skin is chapped? Products that contain fragrance can be irritating to chapped, sensitive skin. Creams and ointments are better than lotions and try to avoid hand sanitizers with too much alcohol, as they can be drying to chapped skin. Are there other treatments to increase moisture absorption? Around bedtime before laying down for your beauty rest, apply our Body Butter and then cover with cotton gloves to increase absorption. You may also consider using a humidifier at night which raises the humidity level in a room that can help dry skin. If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below. With the growing number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 growing nationwide it's very important to start with the basics and look after your own health first:
Check on Older Neighbors and Loved Ones Those over the age of 60 and those with preexisting conditions — like heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes are at the highest risk for contracting the coronavirus. Checking in on neighbors, friends, and relatives who fall under this category can make a world of difference. A simple phone call to ask if you can get them anything while you run to the supermarket or a conversation through a sealed door as a precautionary measure is all it takes to show that you care. Donate to Food Banks and Shelters If it's within your means, donating food and supplies to local food banks and shelters is a great way to help out those who might not have access to basic necessities. If you're looking to do even more, you can also volunteer through your local food bank to safely drop off care packages to those under quarantine. Support Local Businesses Most small businesses (like us) are feeling the economic impact of people social distancing to reduce their risks of contracting coronavirus. Businesses across the New Jersey have closed or are at risk of closure. But there are a few ways to help:
During a time where people are uncertain about their well-being, all donation amounts are appreciated. This includes food banks, social services, and organizations that help those who have been hurt economically by the virus. Here are a few organizations that you can consider donating to:
Facebook @GlaminatorBeauty | Twitter @GlaminatorBeauty | Instagram @GlaminatorBeauty If you like moisturized skin and healthy hair (and who doesn’t) then shea butter should definitely be in your beauty arsenal. This supercharged natural ingredient can transform dry skin and frizzy hair to smooth and soft. Unsure of what shea butter is exactly and how it works? Here's what you should know about natural shea butter.
What is Shea Butter? Shea butter is farmed in several countries in Africa, such as Gambia, Sudan and Burkina Faso, among others. Shea butter is derived from the seeds of the shea (or karite) tree. It’s filled with beneficial fatty acids such as stereic, oleic and linoleic acids, as well as vitamins, minerals and catechins. Both refined and unrefined forms of shea butter exist, and it’s refined shea that’s made into shea butter. It has many benefits for both your skin and hair. Five Ways to Use Shea Butter For Hair and Skin 1. Used as a Moisturizer Shea butter can help to moisturize even the most cracked, dry skin. This is why it is an active ingredient in our Glaminator Beauty Hydrating Body Butter. Once applied to the skin, shea butter takes on an oil-like texture and is readily absorbed. It can help alleviate skin tightness and dry skin by restoring moisture to the area. Shea butter can be used as a moisturizer all year round especially in the fall or winter seasons when colder climates cause skin to become dry and/or flaky. GB Hydrating Body Butter restores hydration and soothes your skin in places where you may be experiencing skin irritation or excess skin shedding. During the spring/summer months, it’s the perfect product to use after a day in the sun to restore skin hydration and calm your sun beaten skin. 2. Used to Soothe Chapped Lips Suffering from chapped lips? No worries, Shea butter is here to help. Shea butter is perfect for any type of chapped skin you might be dealing with: which tends to be especially common on the lips, especially during fall/winter seasons. Our Hydrating Body Butter helps it heal by simply applying a little dab in the morning and the evening to make sure lips stay soft and smooth. 3. Used to Fight Dandruff and Scalp Irritation Shea butter has amazing soothing qualities, which helps calm your scalp especially if you're experiencing ongoing dry scalp. Use a small amount of shea butter and massage it into your scalp in a circular motion. If you suffer from dry hair you can also comb the shea butter through your hair and let it set in for up to an hour as pre-shampoo before shampooing. 4. Used for Softening Hands Shea butter is most commonly used in hand creams, since it can restore dry skin as well as smooth rough cuticles. Quick pro-tip for ultra soft hands: apply our Hydrating Body Butter right before bed time and slip on a pair of gloves or socks. Let the moisture sink in overnight. You’ll wake up with soft, moisturized hands that look and feel it, too. 5. Used as a Smoothing Cream for Frizzy Hair Coarse, dry, or frizzy hair (or all three) is no match for shea butter. If your hair always tends to get frizzy once it’s dry—or just feels more unmanageable than usual—use shea butter to touch up problem spots. Try smoothing down flyaway hair strands, giving hair a healthy sheen, or taking your frizz halo down a notch with it. If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below. Um, yes, please. At least it sounds great doesn't it?
You’ve probably contemplated getting lash extensions a thousand times but before you go ahead and book an appointment, I want to share the good, the bad, and the annoying aspects of having selfie-ready lashes. Keep reading for all the details you seriously need to know. Are lash extensions worth it? Unlike gluing a strip of temporary fake lashes onto your lash line, semipermanent lashes are applied by a Glaminator who hand-adheres the extensions on top of your natural lashes. Because lash extensions don’t come in a strip, they are super customizable and actually look real. With proper care (keyword is care), they can last for up to six to eight weeks until they naturally fall out like your natural lashes usually do. Do eyelash extensions ruin your natural lashes? When done correctly, no, lash extensions will not damage your natural lashes. Lash extensions should never be stuck to one another, never double the length of your natural lash, or be too heavy for your natural lash strength. Those are the three main causes of natural lashes being damaged. At Glaminator Beauty Bar we take extra time to and training to make sure those things don't happen. Just so you know, it usually takes years of bad application and improper care for long-term lash damage to happen as a result. So please, only go to reputable, well-reviewed salons (no matter how good that Groupon deal is), and make sure your technician washes their hands between clients, wears a mask, uses sanitary pillow covers, sterilizes their tweezers, and uses disposable eyelash brushes. And yes, you are allowed to ask your technician to confirm all these things. How much does it cost to get eyelash extensions? In New York City, a basic set (typically 70 to 80 lashes per eye) can range anywhere from $100 to $400 plus gratuity, which is usually another 20 percent. And because eyelashes grow and eventually fall out, you have to go back every few weeks for fill-ins, which can cost anywhere from $50 to $165, depending on how many new lashes you need. Check Glaminator Beauty Bar Pricing *NOTE: The longer you go between fill-ins, the more lashes you’ll need to replace and the more it will cost you—and if you wait too long, your technician might just want to give you a brand-new set of extensions rather than a fill-in, which won’t be cheap. How do you know what size eyelash extensions to get? So you want Kardashian–level lashes? Awesome—but that doesn’t mean your eyes can handle them. The type of lashes you can apply all depends on the length and strength of your natural lashes. Wearing lashes that are too long or too thick for your lashes can actually cause damage in the long run, so you need to make sure your extensions aren’t too much longer or thicker than your natural lashes. When in doubt simply ask our Lash Glaminator's during the lash consult. We will help you make the best decision for your lashes, including what type of material you should get, like synthetic mink or synthetic silk. When it comes to density, curl, and length of your extensions, you’ll want to work with your tech to figure out which is the best option for you. Final Thought Okay, so there’s a lot to think about before you decide to get eyelash extensions. If you feel like mascara isn’t totally cutting it and you’re okay with the extra maintenance and cash that eyelash extensions require, it’s definitely worth finding a specialist and having a consultation. If you feel this may be too much for you, check out our Lift & Tint services, this may be more your speed! If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below. Glaminator's unique hard wax blend was created to be loved by all types of skin & hair. Our premium low melting point waxes are produced using a blend of high quality resins and nourishing essential oils. The final result is a quality hard wax that you just can't get enough of.
HERE'S WHY: 1.HARD WAX STICKS TO THE HAIR, NOT THE SKIN Unlike soft wax, which requires the use of cloth strips, our custom hard wax blend is the only material we need to get your skin silky smooth. It dries and shrink wraps itself around the your hair transforming into a flexible strip. The wax only attaches to the hair follicle and not your beloved skin. This creates an easy , more pain fee removal process. 2. HARD WAX HURTS LESS You now know our custom hard wax blend doesn’t stick to skin, making the removal process is considerably more comfortable. Instead of worrying about rashes, cuts, and irritation to your skin, you will only feel the actual removal of the hair. 3. HARD WAX DOESN'T DISTORT YOUR HAIR FOLLICLES Just like soft wax, hard wax removes the hair from the root, so it takes longer for the hair to grow back compared to shaving or other forms of hair removal. But, what's unique about using our custom hard wax blend is its ability to remove hair from any angle. With soft wax, if the esthetician pulls the wax off in the same direction as the hair growth, it can distort the hair follicle. But what happens if the hair doesn’t all grow in the same direction? At Glaminator Beauty Bar this isn’t a concern because the hair follicle can be removed from any angle with no risk of damage to the hair follicle or your skin. 4. HARD WAX IS MORE THOROUGH Finally, hard wax can be reapplied to the same area in the same waxing session. With soft wax, if a few hairs are missed, the esthetician will likely use tweezers to complete the process. When using hard wax, if there's a few stray hairs left behind a Glaminator will simply apply a thin layer to those areas and peel again with minimal pain and minimal plucking! Now, which is the best wax, hard wax or soft wax?
Waxing salons use different types of wax and the real difference lies within the quality. One type of wax does hurt less than another. I should mention we highly recommend going to a salon who puts their clients first. Unfortunately, some just care about how much money they spend on the wax, compared to the quality, safety and comfort of their customers. Here is a little information on the various types of wax used. Our goal is to keep our Glam Friends educated so they know we have their best interest at heart. Which kind of wax does Glaminator Beauty Bar use? Keep reading to find out! SOFT WAX Soft wax is applied to the skin in an extremely thin layer. It is very good for removing those finer hairs. After applying the wax it is then removed by placing a muslin strip on top of it and ripping it off. Soft wax adheres to the skin, meaning it removes layers of dead skin when it is being pulled off. This is why you cannot wax the same area twice with soft wax. The risk of lifting and pulling off live skin is greatly increased when this occurs. You may be left with results of bleeding, scarring and scabbing to the skin. With soft wax, there is the slight chance of being burned because the temperature needs to be higher in order to use the wax properly. The wax itself is very sticky so it can also be difficult to remove it all from the applied area. Many tend to think soft wax hurts a little bit more than hard wax because of this feeling. Soft wax is very popular within the waxing industry because a lot of wax doesn't have to be used on the area to get the job done. Soft wax also costs significantly less than hard wax which means the businesses have a higher profit margin. HARD WAX Hard wax (also known as strip-less wax) is applied to the skin and does not require a strip to be pulled off. Once the wax dries and hardens on its own, it can be removed directly since it does not have that "sticky" issue like soft wax. Hard wax adheres to the hair only, not the skin. This means the Esthetician can go over the same area multiple times without the risk of also lifting and pulling off the skin. The waxing session is known to be less painful since the wax is not tugging at the skin when it's being removed. Hard wax will solely pull out the hair resulting in a much more comfortable experience for the client. Hard wax requires a lower temperature to work properly which lessens the chance of a client being burned or feel any sort of pain. Depending on the area being waxed, more wax may have to be used meaning it may be more expensive for the business to use. However, isn’t a quality wax worth spending a little more money on compared to a cheap painful wax? We think so! Hard wax is especially great for sensitive areas like Brazilian waxing, bikini waxing, facial waxing and underarm waxing. At GBB, we use a custom blended hard wax. You will quickly see why everyone that has been Glaminated loves our wax over the rest! We invest in premium, high quality hard wax because we want to ensure our Glam Friends have the best experience when they come in for an appointment. Keeping your skin happy and healthy is what’s most important! If you found this helpful then let me know in the comments section below.
